International Women’s Day Activities of IMPR Humanitarian

In many societies, women and girls face specific risks and are less likely than men and boys to have access to their rights, due to their gender roles and position in society.

As of 2011, 50.5 per cent of the world’s working women were in vulnerable employment, often unprotected by labour legislation, compared to 48.2 per cent for men. On the other hand, according to a 2013 global review of available data, 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence. However, some national violence studies show that up to 70 per cent of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime from an intimate partner.

In this context, each year International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 for empowering women’s right and gender equality. The first International Women’s Day was held in 1911. Thousands of events happen to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.

As IMPR Humanitarian we believe that if we support empowering of women, we can empower the humanity. Therefore some activities were implemented in Şırnak/Maden Camp  and Şanlıurfa by IMPR Humanitarian. On the occasion of the International Women’s Day (IWD), Syrian and Turkish women made handcrafts and patchwork. During these activities IMPR Humanitarian made photo exhibition which includes message for IWD from Turkish and Syrian women. Also Syrian volunteers in IMPR community centre, performed a silent theatre, which focused GBV, and dancing performance.

During these activities, IMPR Humanitarian conducted raising awareness campaign which includes pregnancy care, breast cancer, familliy planning, GBV, for local communities and refugees.

On the other hand IMPR Humanitarian opened Turkey’s first and only Women Community Center for Syrian refugees due to lack of space for refugee women.
